Scholarships for Exchange and International Students
Scholarship for International Students by Ministry of Education (MOE), R.O.C.
- Date for application and process:
In the first two weeks after classes begin every semester. The application documents should be submitted to the Office of International Exchanges and International Education (OIEIE). The International Exchange Committee will review all the applications and decide the final list of the scholarship. - Application qualifications:
* Fulltime international students, not including overseas Chinese students and those with R.O.C. nationality, who have completed their first semester in TKU.
* Undergraduate: taking at least 6 credits each semester, with an average academic grade of 65 or above for the last semester and without any record of misbehavior.
* Graduate: taking at least 4 credits each semester, with an average academic grade of 75 or above for the last semester and without any record of misbehavior. Those who are working on master or doctorate degree theses/dissertations, and unable to provide the academic record for the last semester, may submit recommendation letters from the advisors of their departments or the Graduate Institute. In this case, additional documents needed are: thesis/dissertation writing plan, research motivation, research structure, sources of the materials, outline, reference, etc. Those graduate students who are working on theses/dissertations without taking more than 4 credits can apply twice only.
* Applicants must not be granted with any other scholarship from the ROC government.
* Applicants should be recommended by professors in related fields from their departments or the Graduate Institute. - Quota and amount:
The quota of scholarship recipients depends on the budget from the MOE. Every recipient will be granted NT$10,000 per month for no more than 6 months in one semester. - Responsibility for volunteer services:
Starting from the second semester of academic year 2007, recipients of this scholarship/aid need to undertake 30 hours of volunteer services in Tamkang University as a way to increase their exchange experiences with TKU students as well as faculty and staff. Tasks of volunteer services will focus mainly on international exchange. The OIEIE, as a supervising role, will guide and assist recipients in fulfilling the services.

Date for application and process:
Applicants must deliver their application forms to the OIEIE in the first three weeks of each semester. -
Application qualifications:
* Applicants: Exchange students from foreign sister universities or those recommended by academic institutions.
* Academic transcript: Academic transcript from either applicants’ home universities or TKU— with an average academic grade of 65 (GPA 2.5) or above for undergraduate students or 75 (GPA 3.0) for graduate students for the last semester, and without any record of misbehavior. All applicants need to be recommended by the related Department, or professors, or offering a certificate of poor finance status. -
Quota and amount:
The quota of recipients depends on the budget of each year from Tamkang University. Each recipient will be granted NT$7,000 per month for 5 months per semester. The scholarship will be granted on November, January, April, and June. Exchange and international students have to prepare money for their living expenses for at least the first 2 to 3 months after their arrival in Taiwan. -
Responsibility for volunteer services:
Starting from the second semester of academic year 2007, recipients of this scholarship/aid need to undertake 20 hours of volunteer services in Tamkang University as a way to increase their exchange experiences with TKU students as well as faculty and staff. Tasks of volunteer services will focus mainly on international exchange. The OIEIE, as a supervising role, will guide and assist recipients in fulfilling the services.
