Chair: Shih, Hsu-shih

The Department

This department was established in 1972 when the Graduate Institute of Management Sciences offered the master's degree in management sciences concentrating on system analysis. Two more concentrations, management sciences and management information systems, were added in the following year. In 1975, it began to offer the Ph.D. degree in management sciences. A concentration on managerial economics was added to the master's program in 1978; and the concentration of management information systems was expanded and became the Graduate Institute of Information Engineering in the same year. In 1992, the concentration of system analysis was expanded and became the Graduate Institute of Management Information Systems while the concentration of managerial economics was expanded and became the Graduate Institute of International Business. In 1993, the master's program was divided into two groups: Group A is a quantitative group and group B is a general management group. In 1998, the name of this graduate institute of management sciences was changed into the Department of Management Sciences, offering an undergraduate degree in management sciences. In the academic year of 2002, the department was transformed into two divisions: Department of Management Sciences and Decision Making that offers the undergraduate degree, and the Graduate Institute of Management Sciences that offers MBA, EMBA, and Ph.D. degrees.
