The College of Liberal Arts

The College of Liberal Arts is the oldest academic division of Tamkang University. The College is currently composed of five departments and one graduate institute: the Departments of Chinese, History, Information and Library Science, Mass Communication, Information and Communication, and the Graduate Institute of Chinese Linguistics and Documentation. All of this is divided into two academic traditions: the Humanities and Social Sciences.The major feature of the College is the "dual core" disciplinary knowledge integrating Social Science traditions with that of the Humanities. This foundation, has led to the unique positioning and learning environment of "oriental views, global vision, international connections and creativity innovation," and has built up the kernel competitive strength in "international Chinese studies," "creative Chinese studies," "digitalized Chinese studies," and "creativity industry of Chinese culture."

The College of Sciences

The College consists of three departments (Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry) and one Graduate Institute (Life Sciences). The requirements of active teaching and research have become the tradition of the College, and the number of faculty members and students has been growing steadily over the years.In addition to the College curricula, the faculty devote themselves to the designing and teaching of the University core courses, which include Natural Science, Three Scientific Revolutions and Space Universe, The Impact of Scientific Revolutions in the 21st Century, etc. The College emphasizes interdisciplinary basic and applied science programs; therefore, photo-electronics, material, biochemistry, and life sciences are the main focus subjects for both teaching and research.

The College of Engineering

Established more than four decades ago, the College of Engineering has developed into a sizable school made up of the Departments of Architecture, Civil Engineering, Water Resources & Environmental Engineering, Mechanical & Electro-Mechanical Engineering, Chemical and Materials Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science & Information Engineering, and Aerospace Engineering. All eight departments confer Masters and Doctoral degrees. All eight departments have applied for "Accreditation of Engineering and Technology Education Programs" in succession, and, among them, the Department of Architecture, the Department of Water Resources & Environment Engineering, and the Department of Chemical & Materials Engineering are preparing for on-site visits this October, while all the other departments have been accredited. According to the Essential Science Indicators (ESI), conducted by the Institute for Scientific Information (ISI), the College of Engineering is ranked in the top one percent in the field of engineering education.

The College of Business

The goal of the College of Business is to cultivate students with a global view and specialized knowledge in commercial fields. There are five departments, including Banking and Finance, Economics, Insurance, International Trade and Industrial Economics. Every department has its own master program; and doctoral programs are available in the Department of Banking and Finance and the Department of Industrial Economics. Our graduates possess the capabilities both in theory and practice. They are highly popular with companies. All programs aim at developing quality business professionals with a global view in economic development, business environment and financial policies. The above characteristics create a sound foundation for students' future study or social service. They develop students' global view by reinforcing the curriculum in English and promoting junior year abroad programs.

The College of Management

Established in 1980, the College of Management has been expanding into the largest management college in Taiwan. Over 90% of the faculty members have obtained a PhD degree. The College comprises seven departments all of which provide undergraduate and master programs. The College also offers a cross-department doctoral program in Management Sciences, English MBA program, six EMBA programs, and several cross-department programs subsidized by the Ministry of Education. In addition, the College has an agreement with the University of Michigan-Flint for a co-master program. Students will be able to gain master's degrees from both Universities when they complete their study. Furthermore, an EI indexed journal "International Journal of Information and Management Sciences" published by the College is a symbol of its academic excellence.

The College of Foreign Languages and Literatures

The College of International Studies

Founded in August, 1992, the College of International Studies consists eight graduate institutes as follows: Graduate Institute of European Studies, Graduate Institute of American Studies, Graduate Institute of International Affairs and Strategic Studies, Graduate Institute of Japanese Studies, Graduate Institute of Latin America Studies, Graduate Institute of Slavic Studies, Graduate Institute of China Studies, Graduate Institute of Southeast Asian Studies. Besides offering M.A. Programs, three graduate institutes offer PhD programs. They are: Graduate Institute of American Studies, Institute of European Studies and Institute of International Affairs and Strategic Studies. The college is devoted to cultivating high-level professionals to engage in academic research or to manage international affairs in both public and private sectors.

The College of Education

Established in 2000, the College consists of the Department of Educational Technology, the Graduate Institute of Educational Policy and Leadership, the Graduate Institute of Educational Psychology and Counseling, the Graduate Institute of Higher Education, the Graduate Institute of Curriculum and Instruction, the Graduate Institute of Futures Studies, the Center for Teacher Education, and the Center for General Education and Core Curriculum. College development features: To transmit and create new knowledge through future-oriented education and forward-looking programs as well as through the integration and practice of the studies of educational theories; to promote indigenous and globalized "role-model" education and research so as to provide the educational administrative institutions as well as the primary and secondary education with guidelines and suggestions for practice and development; to enhance the quality and capability of the overall education through integrating the academic manpower of Tamkang University, carrying out research and experiments in related curricula, providing in- and off- campus educational institutions with information regarding the management of educational quality and establishing partnership with all levels of schools and institutions.

The College of Entrepreneurial Development

The major pedagogical goal for the College is to cultivate entrepreneurial spirit in our students. Encouraged to be innovative and responsible, our students learn to pursue new business opportunities which are available in a challenging new economic environment. As a result, the College offers courses that help students obtain a wide array of up-to-date entrepreneurial skills, competencies, and a broad knowledge base. The College also establishes relationships with the local community and provides resources for students embarking on entrepreneurial ventures. Students are trained to be leaders with extensive perspectives and a vision for the future.

College of Global Research and Development

The College of Community Development

Community education is one of the main purposes of University education. Following the great success of university education, vocational education and adult continuing education in Tamkang University, Dr. Clement C.P. Chang established the College of Community Development after Tamkang University fourth curve to form an integrated university. This task is assigned to Lanyang Campus so as to contribute to his hometown, I-lan. In order to reflect local cultural, industrial and economic features and to foster the management expertise for the community, the following departments were founded to offer Bachelor degree programs: Department of Leisure Industry Management, Department of Service Industry Management and Department of Landscape Architecture and Management.
