Brief History

The College of Management was established in 1980 by combining the original Departments of Business Administration, Accounting and Statistics when Tamkang College of Arts and Sciences was approved by the Ministry of Education to become Tamkang University (TKU). It has kept expanding into the current largest College of Management in Taiwan with more than 6,100 students and 105 full-time faculty members. Currently it has seven departments: Business Administration, Accounting, Statistics, Information Management, Transportation Management, Public Administration, and Management Sciences and Decision-Making.

The main objective of College of Management is to cultivate well-trained and high quality young managerial talents both at undergraduate and graduate levels for Taiwanese society, which has experienced more than 50 years of high economic growth and diversified industrial development. In the past 27 years, College of Management has built up a good reputation through hard working alumni in different professions of the society. College of Management focuses on systematic approaches to educating students to equip themselves with competence in problem analysis and decision making, planning and programming, budgeting and control, organizing and leadership in the professions of marketing, production, human resources, finance, accounting, transportation, communication, information technology, government administration, and quantitative analysis. In addition, College of Management also offers cross-department doctoral programs, English MBA programs, six EMBA programs, and several cross-department programs subsidized by the Ministry of Education. Furthermore, the College has an agreement with University of Michigan-Flint for a co-master program. Students would be able to gain master degrees from both Universities when they complete their study. Furthermore, an EI indexed journal "International Journal of Information Sciences" published by the College is an indication of its academic excellence.

College of Management has been guided by the triple-objective in its course design and faculty recruitment: globalization, future-orientation, and information orientation. It's very active in conducting joint academic conferences with TKU's over 95 renowned sister universities around the world and short-term overseas study programs every year since 1995. The College has also devoted a great deal to establish practice-oriented courses and public speech programs by inviting key business executives as speakers around the year; hence, substantially enriching and benefiting the students beyond the textbooks. Computer and Internet facilities are available to students for their homework and practice. An academic journal is issued by every department to encourage faculty members to publish their research results. Exchanging visits and seminar programs across the Taiwan Strait with colleges and universities in Mainland China every year is the most special activity among the ten colleges in Tamkang University.

Motto and Goals

To cultivate high-quality young talents with managerial professionalism, cultural depth, global views, and to establish a everybody's dream management school.

Future Development

College of Management will continue working hard toward excellent professional management education in Taiwan through research, teaching, and service, a three-in-one strategy by the faculty. It will keep attracting outstanding new faculty members. The facilities and teaching equipment will be improved along with student–faculty quality enhancement. The international and cross-strait exchange programs are also a main direction for development in the future. To match the trends of globalization, we set up a new graduate program (English MBA), which all courses will be given in English. It will provide more opportunities for students to communicate with international students, but also cultivate students with a broad mind and a new vision of international management. In 2007 academic year, the Management College will help the graduate students obtain two degrees in an efficient way. We've signed the academic corporation agreements, offering the so-called "dual Master degree", with the University of Michigan at Flint. Besides, we will offer a digital in-service master program, the so-called "the E-Learning EMBA of Global Chinese Traders", which was highly approved by the Ministry of Education. The e-learning via the Internet will provide global Chinese business traders a good chance to get a Master's degree. Five Executive MBA programs for the vast number of Tamkang alumni and others who have earned bachelor degrees will be another important development progress; and four new Ph.D. programs for Business Administration, Accounting, Information management and Applied Statistics have been added and will greatly enhance the quality reputation for the College and the University as a whole.
